Most of our Facebook friends and followers have seen our urgent shelter pet posts countless times.
Those who are willing to help have probably already expressed their interest. To save more animals, we have to expand our audience to reach new people.

Joining local community-based Facebook groups is a simple and effective way to share urgent shelter pet posts with people unlikely to see this information elsewhere.
All Facebook groups are listed by location. To join a group, go to our home page and click on the box that describes the type of group you want to join. Click on each box to open and close it.

When the box opens, you may see one or more buttons that link directly to different Facebook groups. Click on any button to be directed to that Facebook group.

When directed to the Facebook group of your choice, click the "Join Group" button. Afterwards, pause for a moment to see if you are prompted to answer any questions.
Some Facebook group moderators require that you answer a few questions before approving your request to join.

Most of the time, moderators want to confirm that you are a local human adult who won't cause problems in the group. If you don't live in the area, you can state that you live nearby and volunteer in the community, which will likely gain approval.

Start by creating your own post or preparing to share someone else's post. Then click the "Group" button below, which will bring up a list of all the groups you have joined.
Find the group you want by typing the name in the search box or scrolling down and clicking the group name to select it. Add a helpful, detailed message to your post and click the "Post" button.

Always keep in mind that most people don't understand how shelters or animal rescues work.
In fact, many people have misconceptions about the personal cost of fostering, how to foster if they already have pets, and how pledging works.
Unfortunately, if people don't immediately understand how they can help, they just keep scrolling.
For best results, urgent shelter pet posts should include clear descriptions of the following:
What is needed? How can they help? Who do they contact? What steps should they take?
This website is a work in progress. It's a good starting point, but I am committed to making it even better by adding more Facebook group links to expand our reach. Please use this form to submit the names and URLs of Facebook groups that aren’t currently listed.

Some Facebook groups are run by local community members with strict rules that make it impossible to post successfully. If you find any published group to be problematic, please use this form to report it to me, and I will remove it from our list.
I am open to adding additional resources to this website that make it easier for us to get more shelter animals into safe, loving homes. Please use this form to suggest additional ways to make this website more useful.

I want to thank you for your willingness to devote so much of yourself to helping these precious animals who have no one else to save them.
Please send this website link to everyone who may be willing to join some local Facebook groups to help us share and save more shelter pets in our community.

You are invited to share the stories and save the lives of local pets facing death in Central Indiana shelters.
